Orava Museum of Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav

The literary exhibition in three rooms presents the life and work of one of the most important realistic, lyrical-epic authors of Slovak literature from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries – poet, playwright, translator and lawyer Pavel Országh Hviezdoslav.

Museum of Orava Village, Zuberec – Brestová

The outdoor museum lies in beautiful nature surrounded by the peaks of Roháče. Discover over 50 buildings of folk architecture documenting of the life of Orava’s people – farmers, artisans and shepherds.

Forester’s House under the Babia hill

This beautiful and idyllic place under the majestic Babia hill is linked to two important figures of Slovak literature – Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav a Milo Urban.

Martin Kukučín Memorial House in Jasenová

The memorial house of Slovak Realist writer, playwright and physician Martin Kukučín is located in the village Jasenová, 5 km from Dolný Kubín. The house is still preserved to this day thanks to restoration in 1960, after which the house was opened to the public.

Room of Grandmothers, Párnica

The museum is located in a 150-year-old yeoman’s style building. It offers more than 230 exhibition pieces lent or gifted by the residents and natives of the village.

The Museum of Noble Carriages and Sledges, Oravský Podzámok

A unique and extensive collection of 21 exhibits document the development of carriages and sledges for nobles, burghers, peasants, for hunting, fun, funeral or tough winters.

Bobrova raľa and the Little Ethnographical Museum at Podbiel, Podbiel

The folk architecture reserve of Bobrova raľa (Beaver’s Bounds) consists of a lightly damaged traditionally built-up area of agricultural yards near the main road of the village. The small ethnographical museum provides information about archaeological findings, the former narrow-gauge railway, and items used in the past in households during agricultural activities and liturgies.

Monument zone

The centres of Trstená and Tvrdošín (both since 1991) and the village Oravský Pozdámok (since 1995) are monument zones.
