Anton Habovštiak Orava Library in Dolný Kubín is a regional cultural, information and educational institution. It is the municipal public library for Dolný Kubín and the regional library for Dolný Kubín, Námestovo and Tvrdošín. The library operates as a natural community centre, providing cultural, informational and educational functions. It was established in 1951, and since 2002, it has been a contributory organisation set up by the Žilina Self-Governing Region. The library has been long recognized under the annual nationwide assessment of libraries for its above-average quality and activities. In a normal year, the library provides services to around 3100 registered users. The reading room contains sections of academic, imaginative (fiction), children’s and regional literature and is visited by around 55,000 readers of all ages. The library lends 240,000 books and periodicals and holds more than 800 educational, and cultural and social events attended by around 15,000 participants, mainly children and youth.
